Here are fifteen Frida Kahlo craft projects to make all year round, or to celebrate her birthday in July! If you are looking for some projects to make with a bit of Frida style and spirit, I’ve gathered up some of my favorites from years past.
Frida Kahlo was a groundbreaking Mexican artist known for her vivid self-portraits, bold use of color, and deeply personal symbolism. Her work blends elements of Mexican folk art, surrealism, and raw emotion to explore themes like identity, pain, love, and resilience.
Despite facing lifelong health challenges, Frida turned her suffering into beauty, using art as both expression and empowerment.
Beyond her paintings, her signature style—flower crowns, embroidered dresses, and strong brows—has become an icon of creativity and unapologetic self-expression.
Crafting in Frida’s spirit means embracing color, culture, and courage to tell your own unique story through art.
I learned so much about her when I authored the book, she was more than a painter, she was a maker, crafter – a hyper creative just like many of us!
